Backpacking Food Bags For Storing and Reconstituting Dried Meals With Hot Water

Our boil-soak pouches are created for backpackers who need a bag to store dried meals and reconstitute them by pouring boiling water into the pouch. These high-temperature standup “cook-in-pouches” can sustain temperatures up to 230 degrees F (110 degrees C). Pouches have a shorter bowl shape and can hold up to 4 cups (.95L) of wet volume.

How to use: Place food in the bag, pour boiling water over it, stir, seal shut with the zipper, and allow the food to reconstitute for several minutes.

Below, we demonstrate reconstituting a dried meal mix using the boil-soak pouch with Outdoor Herbivore’s Lemongrass Thai Curry in the Hungry Single (Serves 1) meal size. Note: The photo below is for illustration purposes to show how the food rehydrates using a waterproof and heat-safe standup pouch.

Cleaning Instructions

  • Hand-wash: Use non-abrasive cleaning agents (soft sponge and hot soapy water) to clean. Air dry by propping the bag open.
  • Dishwasher: Prop open the bag, place it on the top shelf, and dry with the air-dry setting. Keep bags clear of water jets to prevent bags from moving around and closing.
  • Ensure the bags have no moisture present before storing; otherwise, they will host mold/bacteria and become unsafe for food reuse.

Our high-temperature pouches are perfect for storing and making dehydrated or freeze-dried backpacking meals. They are lightweight, durable, keep your food fresh, and safe to reconstitute dried meals with hot water.
